Istanbul | Turkey

East meets West in the ancient, transcontinental city of Istanbul. Last stop on the fabled silk road, a network of trade routes stretching from from the Korean Peninsula to the cities and marketplaces of Europe.

Naturally, the city that straddles two great continents attracted merchants from across the globe as well as the marauding armies of Greeks, Romans, and Venetians. The conquerors sacked and split while many of the merchants laid down roots.

Descendants of these entrepreneurs remain and provide Istanbul much of its cultural diversity and natural charisma. Breathtaking art and architecture aside, Istanbul’s real main attraction is its incredibly hospitable people.
